‘Panasia, HMM, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Korean Register are joining hands

to realize “Carbon Neutral Future” in shipping industry’

Four main companies in shipping industry, HMM, Samsung Heavy Industries, Panasia, and Korean Register,

have joined forces to secure carbon-reducing technologies in the shipping industry.

On the 27th of May, these four companies signed a business agreement for integrated demonstration research on ship carbon dioxide capture

and liquefaction storage technology (OCCS-Onboard Carbon Capture System).

Under this agreement, the four companies plan to form a joint working group to conduct marine empirical research by directly mounting OCCS

developed with pure domestic technology on the 2,100 TEU container ship actually operated by HMM within this year.

The demonstration, which will be held for the first time in Korea, will be equipped with a large-capacity OCCS that can collect and liquefy 24 tons of carbon dioxide a day.
Samsung Heavy Industries and Panasia will be in charge of design, manufacture, installation, and test operation,

while HMM will be in charge of actual operation.

The Korea Shipping Company will conduct a risk assessment of ships.

During the demonstration period, carbon dioxide collected from the exhaust gas of container ships will be used to manufacture smart farms and dry ice on land.
This OCCS demonstration study by the four companies aims to achieve results such as

verifying carbon dioxide capture and liquefaction performance securing real operation data at sea and accumulating operational management (O&M) know-how.

After that, Panasia plans to increase the level of trust in OCCS technology and commercialize it through commercialization.

Many stakeholders expect that these OCCS will be actively used as one of the strategies to respond

to environmental regulations on ship greenhouse gases led by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In addition, Panasia has launched building of the third factory "Green EPC Center" since 17th of May to prepare

in advance for OCCS's demand for greenhouse gas reduction in the shipbuilding/marine industry in the future.

The "Green EPC Center" will accelerate the development of Panasia's eco-friendly EPC technology,

focusing on OCCS, and attention is being paid to PANASIA's move as First Mover.
