PANASIA is expanding with a new line at its headquarters by deploying a smart factory system
PANASIA, an eco-friendly systems
expert, is expanding with a new line at its headquarters by deploying a smart
factory system.
Using the smart factory system, PANASIA is manufacturing UV lamps, one of the key components involved in sterilizing the ballast water in the ballast water treatment system.
Since its deployment of the smart factory system, PANASIA has experienced remarkable results, including a 375% increase in daily UV lamp production, an 85% drop in defect rate, and a 30% reduction in manufacturing costs.
Inspired by this success, the company decided to
expand its business. With the goal of building a new, automated production line
at the factory, the company is planning to complete an advanced robotic system
by the second half of 2020, which combines a tank level gauging system with
Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology.
To ensure safe sailing, the tank level gauging
system is installed on the ballast tank and the scrubber that serve as
auxiliary equipment, as well as on the ship’s cargo hold.
The tank level gauging system and measurement system has been the mainstay of PANASIA’s business, with a steady stream of contract awards being a strong indicator of customer satisfaction with the system.
Over its past 30 years in business, PANASIA has become one of the key industry players in Korea, leading the market in terms of awareness.
To cope with the increasing sales volume and the demand to diversify its
product line, PANASIA is planning to deploy the manufacturing execution system
(MES), warehouse management system (WMS), and advanced planning and scheduling
(APS) system to all of its processes for all of its products by 2021.
Through these deployments, the company plans to build a system that consists of
sensors, IoT devices, and kiosks installed on each process, which allows for
the real-time monitoring of on-site data, such as output, quality, and operator
data. The company believes this system will maximize efficiency across the
entire process.
By
expanding and updating its smart system line, PANASIA expects to see an
exponential growth in production, a reduction in lead time, and lower defect
rates, which will ultimately cut the cost of manufacturing by 5 to 10%.
As
vice president of production Kim Seong-gwan puts it, “Through PANASIA’s smart
factory line expansion, we want to offer an environment for artificial
intelligence (AI) based data acquisition and state-of-the-art data analytics.
We intend to go beyond the marine industry, and lead innovation in the
eco-friendly and energy manufacturing sector.”
